The history of the supply of water to populations is an integral part of the history of humanity and societies. Today, EPAL – Empresa Portuguesa das Águas Livres, SA, is there for the everyday life of about 3 million inhabitants who consume water. The company has been pursuing its operations non-stop since the day the Companhia das Águas de Lisboa (CAL) was founded in 1868.

Throughout this century and a half, a legacy of great historical, technical and scientific value was created, focused on the company’s activities.

In order to compile and share its history and experience acquired, EPAL has edited and/or sponsored several publications that can be obtained through this website or directly from the store at the Water Museum.

Furthermore, and to engage in a closer dialogue with our customers, we publish a newsletter which aims to keep them more up to date with our services.
