EPAL introduces a new Water Bill with a zero-carbon footprint

EPAL has undertaken a comprehensive update of its Water Bill, which now incorporates a renewed visual identity and more detailed information. Everything to make life easier!

In a more intuitive and structured format, the revised model provides increased completeness while remaining straightforward. Our objective is to ensure that all essential information is presented in a manner that is both accessible and simple.

The new layout contains a full breakdown of all debit amounts, with a clear indication of whether these are included in the outstanding balance. The same treatment is applied to credit amounts, thereby significantly facilitating the reading and interpretation of the document.

The organisation of the information has also been improved, enabling customers to identify promptly the amount payable, the respective deadline, and the detailed composition of tariff items.

Furthermore, the message field now contains specific information regarding EPAL and complementary sectoral activities relating to wastewater and waste management.

With this revised Water Bill, EPAL seeks to provide an enhanced customer experience and to comply fully with the requirements established by the regulator, ERSAR. The bill now presents information in a more legible, coherent and visually structured manner. The introduction of colour assists in distinguishing key elements and ensures greater usability.

Given that sustainability constitutes a core element of EPAL’s institutional identity, we also inform customers that EPAL is now offsetting all carbon emissions associated with the printing and distribution of the paper bills that remain in circulation, thereby contributing to the reduction of environmental impact. The Water Bill is now certified as Carbon Zero.

Nonetheless, customers are strongly encouraged to adopt the water bill by e-mail, which constitutes the most sustainable option available.

The adoption of this digital option, already undertaken by approximately half of Lisbon’s residents, enables each customer to avoid an estimated half-kilogram of carbon emissions per year, corresponding to approximately five kilometres travelled by motor vehicle.

Did you know that reductions in water consumption also result in proportional reductions in wastewater and waste collection charges?

Subscribers to EPAL’s waterbeep service also benefit from an effective instrument in the identification and prevention of water waste.

EPAL encourages the adoption of the water bill by e-mail as a means of reducing both carbon and water footprints. The production of a single sheet of paper requires approximately ten litres of water. Customers may subscribe by calling 213 221 111.

The explanatory leaflet may be consulted here. Further information regarding the Carbon Zero Water Bill and EPAL’s Climate Action Plan is available at epal.pt.
